Dakota Wetland Partners, LLC (DWP) is a regional leader in providing wetland mitigation bank credits developed through restoration and protection of the highly prized aquatic habitats of the Upper Midwest and Great Plains. DWP deploys a team of regional experts to implement the full array of mitigation banking services, from initial wetland delineations and functional assessments through entitlement and sponsorship of stand-alone, as well as umbrella, mitigation banking instruments. DWP’s system of mitigation banks include wetland types ranging from prairie potholes to riverine, and from emergent marshes to bottomland forests.

Conservation

The conservation philosophy of DWP can be observed in the landscape-scale efforts of its projects, including establishment and progressive management of large areas of the Big Sioux, James and Missouri River basins of South Dakota, and Missouri and Red River Valleys of North Dakota. Habitat development in such areas results in extraordinary benefits to birds and other important wildlife in these critical flyways of the central U.S.

Management

DWP principals have provided oversight and management of multi-million dollar programs, from sustainable agriculture operations involving thousands of acres, to the development, implementation and management of massive wetland restoration and floodplain management strategies along major rivers like the Missouri and Mississippi.

Restoration

As a result of the collective experience of DWP’s principals, thousands of acres of wetland and stream habitat have been restored and are under long-term conservation management across the United States, including aquatic resource areas in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and inter-mountain West, and now progressively throughout the Dakotas and Northern Great Plains.

Benefits

• Transfer of Liability: Immediately and permanently transfer mitigation liability from the land owner to the mitigation bank; this removes the risk of biological failure during the years monitoring and maintenance required with producer responsible solutions.

• Expedited Approvals: Save time and money by aligning with the National Food Security Act Manual, which allows use of mitigation bank credits as a simple solution for wetland conversions.

• No Road Blocks: There are no issues raised regarding water rights, mitigation design or monitoring plans, since DWP has already completed the mitigation actions at the bank.

• Certified by USDA/NRCS: Credits have been certified by the USDA/NRCS which is requiring the compensatory mitigation, removing all risk of project rejection.
